Heeeyyy, good-lookin’, whaaatcha’ got cookin’ …?

ADDENDUM:

Okay, boys and girls, I just made this cake again for the first time in about eight years… and it’s ah-mazing. If possible, eat it warm, straight out of the oven. (After you frost it.) Yeah, it’s good.

Honey Bun Cake

1 yellow cake mix

1 cup brown sugar

2 cups powdered sugar

3/4 cup oil

1 Tablespoon cinnamon

4 Tablespoons milk

4 eggs

1 Tablespoon vanilla extract

8 oz sour cream

Mix cake mix, oil, eggs, and sour cream by hand, about 50 strokes.
Put half the batter in 9 x 13 pan.
Combine brown sugar and cinnamon and spread over entire cake. Spread the rest of the batter on top of this.
Use a knife to make swirls in the cake.
Bake at 325 degrees for about 40 minutes.
Blend powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract and spread on warm cake.

Just tried making it for the first time. I used 2 & 1/4 cups flour, 1 & 1/2 cups sugar, 3 & 1/3 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. baking soda and 1/2 tsp. salt to make the cake mix. Saw other people asking and figured that might help someone. Very nice to see that you take time and effort to truly make this as helpful and collaborative as possible. Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving and I hope these notes help someone!

Austin, I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to test and perfect the recipe and then share the results with us. I made this post almost ten years ago and it’s remained my most-liked submission ever since.

Thank you for your generous feedback, especially since I’ve always had sort of a lackadaisical approach to true interaction here. Old and lazy, facts are facts.

There’s no water or milk in the cake? Just making sure before I make this. Thank you so much if you could respond.

I don’t like using mixes. What would be the cake ingredients instead of mix?

I think the oven temperature on this cake is too low, I made it following the full directions and it was still very undone. What can you tell me about this?

Judy, I can’t tell you much at all. This was one of my first posts when I started writing again, and I haven’t made the cake since then, many years later. I would suggest that if you like the recipe, bump the heat up a little and see what happens. Enjoy!
